Läs mer i vårt brev nedan.

Open letter to:

EU High Representative on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton

UN Secretary-General, Ban Kimoon

UN Special Rapporteur of Human Rights In the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ahmad Shaheed

Appeal that mercy should be granted to Rayhaneh Jabbari from death penalty

The Swedish Women’s Lobby, grouping 41 women’s organizations, has with great concern observed the death penalty of Rayhaneh Jabbari in Iran. Jabbari, age 26, was arrested in 2007 for the killing of Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, a former employee of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, whom she said tried to sexually abuse her. She is now awaiting execution by hanging for acting in self-defense against her alleged rapist.

Rayhaneh Jabbari claims she was tortured until she confessed to the murder. She was sentenced to death by a Tehran court in 2009 and her execution verdict was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court. She is now to be executed at any moment.

The Swedish Women’s Lobby demands that the sentence of Jabbari is repealed. The torture Rayhaneh Jabbari has been subjected to and her possible execution are violations of international human rights standards and of women’s human rights.

The Swedish Women’s Lobby urges Your Excellences, Catherine Ashton, Ban Ki Moon and Ahmad Shaheed to intervene and stop this execution and to repeal Rayhaneh Jabbari’s penalty.

Sincerely yours,

Gertrud Åström

President, Swedish Women’s Lobby
